topographical model in two parts, scale 1:50.000

The gap in the middle depicts the river running through the valley. By keeping the model apart, the width of the river can be easily adjusted, it can be widened or narrowed, depending on the current situation and need.
This work is triggered by the last hundred years of land use and planning in the Valais in Switzerland. However, the situation one can find there is not unique but it stands for many other projects alike: The river Rhone has already been 'corrected' twice by re-designing the banks and canalizing the meanders. Currently, yet another 'correction' is in the planning by local authorities.
